Before July 13th, the furthest west I had been was Pennsylvania. That all changed when I boarded a plane from Newark, New Jersey to Los Angeles, California (my very first solo-flight, might I add)! I went to visit one of my best friends, Anand, who is interning in LA for the summer. Our long weekend was filled with visiting museums, hiking, and some very odd Lyft drivers. Here were some of the highlights of my trip!
I loved walking around Venice Beach! The boardwalk is filled with tons of fun shops and places to eat. There were also many unique street performers, artists, and vendors. It has a long pier that gives you a beautiful view of the water and the surrounding area. The beach itself was gorgeous. It was my very first time stepping foot into the Pacific Ocean! The water was definitely much warmer than the beaches in New Jersey or Massachusetts.
Of course, I had to visit one of the most iconic places in Los Angeles — Hollywood Boulevard. As I expected, it was packed. We happened to go on the day an anti-Trump protest was being held, so that definitely made the area more hectic. The first thing we did was visit Madame Tussauds wax museum. This was the closest I got to any actual celebrities in LA!
We spent a lot of time walking up and down the street looking at the stars on the ground. It was tons of fun to search for my favorite celebrities’ stars!
We also visited the Museum of Death but we weren’t allowed to take photos inside. The museum is definitely not for people with weak stomachs. It is gruesome and pretty sad, but definitely interesting.
Griffith Park & Observatory
Anand and I hiked up the Boy Scout trail to the Griffith Observatory on my last full day there. It was a pretty short (but steep) hike and the view was amazing! It was so surreal to see the Hollywood sign in person after seeing it in the media for my whole life. The hike also gave a stunning view of downtown LA.
I had an amazing first trip to the West Coast and I hope that I’ll be able to visit again soon! If you want to see all of the photos from my vacation, click here!
