Realistic Goals for 2018

Happy New Year! I honestly can’t believe is 2018 because I’m graduating from college this year. When I first started college four years ago, 2018 felt so far away. I had no idea what I was going to do with my life and now I only somewhat have an idea. I guess that’s progress?

I didn’t want to come up with resolutions this year because I never keep up with them. Instead, I wanted to share with you some realistic goals I have for the upcoming year. I’m trying out this whole “adulting” thing, and to me, that means being sensible. I still have dreams obviously, but I know that when I have a bunch of student loans to pay back, I won’t be living large.

I am exactly two credits behind graduating on time. Yes, you read that right, two. I’m hoping to get an override so I can just take them next semester. If I can’t, I’ll still be walking at graduation but taking one summer course to finish my degree. Either way, I’ll be graduating from UMass Amherst with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 2018!

Right now I work in retail and I don’t plan on continuing that post-graduation. My job is fine but I want to get one related to my degree. I don’t know exactly what positions I will be applying for, but I want it to be related to mental health and/or social work.

Yay, more school! I’m planning on applying to Master’s programs in Social Work. I don’t have my sight set on any schools yet. I would love to move somewhere new, though.

My boyfriend is planning on studying abroad in Budapest, Hungary, so I hope to visit him there. I’m also dying to go back to Scotland. I know only one trip will be in my budget, so it looks like it will be Hungary! I’m not complaining.

What are your goals for 2018?

  • You should go to school to grad school on the west coast! I’m like 105% bias though soooo… Haha I hope they override those two credits for you!

  • I love your focus on realistic goals! I wish you the best of luck in 2018 🙂 I want to travel this year, too! I’ve never been out of the country but my grandparents are from Scotland and I’d love to visit.
